More and more universities and colleges are offering distance education programs to individuals seeking teacher certification. What measures need to be taken to ensure that these programs are producing teachers of the same caliber as on-campus programs? Exploring answers to these questions will help to validate the advantages of distance education programs that certify teachers, provide guidance to course designers be they faculty or education consultantsand point administrators to the kinds of policies that need to be in place to guarantee equivalency in quality.
